How To Beat The Winter Blues?
How to beat the winter blues?
As temperatures drop and days get shorter, our moods dip as well. The winter blues, also known as a seasonal affective disorder (SAD), affect millions of people every year. But even if you might not technically be experiencing SAD, you could be going through a dip after the festive and cheer-filled holidays (often called the January blues). Either way, there are a few proven, effective solutions to lift yourself up during these bleak months.

1. Get Moving (No Matter Where You Are)

Get those endorphins flowing! There’s an overwhelming amount of evidence that shows getting active (even if it’s walking) can lift your mood—even for those who are clinically depressed. (And it’s no coincidence that endorphins are called the “runner’s high.”). Whether you choose to follow Jane Fonda’s moves on screen or take a hike outside, even just 20 to 30 minutes a day can make a world of difference.

2. Soak in Mother Nature

It may seem counterintuitive to step outside when it’s cold and snowing, but research shows being around nature can make you feel better. After all, we are indeed a part of nature—it’s our home. Take the time to go outdoors for a few minutes before the sun goes down and simply take in your surroundings. Breathe in deeply through your nose and exhale through your mouth, taking a moment to enjoy the crisp winter air.

3. Get Your Hygge On

In the wellness world, the last two years were the years of “hygge,” the Danish lifestyle term that describes the warm, cozy feeling of happiness—whether it comes from a ridiculously soft fleece blanket or a comfortable pillow. Hygge is all the more lovely during winter since you can wrap yourself in a plush blanket as the snow falls outside. Next time you have a chance, light up some candles to fill the room with the calming scents, dab on essential oils to your wrists and sit next to the window while reading your favorite book.

4. Nourish Your Beauty

When it’s cold, sometimes all you want to do is curl up into a fetal position and stay motionless, but neglecting yourself won’t really help cheer you up. Do something for yourself and yourself only. This can be something as simple as putting on a face mask, slathering lotion on your body or giving yourself a mani/pedi.

Try our Sea Kelp and Ginseng All-Over Mask, which purifies and moisturizes thanks to sea kelp and ginseng extracts while infusing your skin with antioxidants. For your body, you try the Lavender Lime Moisturizer, which soothes and calms thanks to its lavender essential oil but also hydrates dry winter skin.
